early childhood relics

My mom has been doing some cleaning this past week, and she has uncovered some truly amusing artifacts from when my sister, my brother, and I were kids. Everything from photos to short stories to drawings to progress reports have been excavated from the rubble that is her walk-in closet, and some of them are just too funny not to share. Below, I have re-typed, just as they appear, my progress report from age 4, as well as an illustrated story I wrote, probably around the age of 6. They are curiously representative of my childhood self and my current self, in a twisted, Freudian sort of way. (In the interest of saving time and space, I didn't scan in the drawings that accompanied my e.e. cummings-esque short story, but let's just say I utilized my full-page stencils and did a little free-stylin' illustration, to boot.) Read on...

Evaluation of Progress (4 years old)
1.      Language development: yes
2.      Intellectual development: yes
3.      Emotional development: fine
4.      Self-esteem: yes
5.      Social skills: yes
6.      Spiritual development: [no comment left]
7.      Physical health: fine
8.      Physical development: greatly improved
9.      Other comments: Lindsey’s fine motor skills, such as cutting, have really developed this year. There isn’t the frustration she experienced at the beginning of the year, though when she is frustrated, she needs to use her words to let people know, rather than screaming. I have enjoyed having Lindsey in my class this year. She enjoys most activities and participates well.

An illustrated story I wrote, probably around 6 years old:

Playing in
the house
jump on
my bed
in my
room
Playing
in the
sand box

Fliing in the
spashiip and
Jet plains

going
to the
[“calcel” is crossed out] Qween
and the
King
on a horse

chick
Eating
Seeds

boys
rideing
in a sail
boat
in the
wind

snow
the
End
